Welcome to Ferry View Campsite – where the north feels like home (with better views!)
Looking for fresh air, big skies, and a proper friendly welcome? You’ve found it.
Ferry View is a small, family-run eco campsite tucked away in the far north of Scotland—just 4 miles from John O'Groats. We’re right off the A836 at Gills Bay, perfectly placed between Thurso and Wick for exploring the beauty of Caithness.
We’re also sitting pretty on the famous North Coast 500—so whether you're road-tripping, exploring, or just escaping it all, you’re in exactly the right spot. In fact, The Far North was named one of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2024 regions… not that we like to brag (okay, maybe just a little).
Fancy a day trip? The ferry to the beautiful Orkney Islands is less than a mile away, and the lovely Castle of Mey is just down the road—perfect for a wander and a bit of history.
Stay your way (but maybe leave the caravan at home!)
We’re open all year—yes, even when the weather’s “character-building”—with a mix of hardstanding and grass pitches to suit:
- Motorhomes
- Campervans
- Roof tents
- Trailer tents
- Good old-fashioned camping tents
Sadly, we’re no longer able to accept caravans—but we promise everything else gets a very warm welcome.
Good coffee, great food… and a bus with a view
We’re also home to a licensed on-site café, because adventures run better on good coffee and tasty food. You can even enjoy your break in our converted bus seating area—a bit quirky, very cosy, and a firm favourite with guests. Whether it’s a morning brew, a bite to eat, or something a little stronger, we’ve got you covered.
Just passing through? We’ve got you covered.
Need a quick refresh on your journey? Our handy “Pit Stop” is perfect if you want to:
- Refill water
- Empty waste
- Grab a hot shower (bliss!)
No need to book—just roll in between 10am and 4pm. Arriving outside those times? Give us a call and 30 minutes’ notice and we’ll do our best to sort you out between arrivals and departures.
Whether you’re here for a night, a week, or just a quick stop to recharge (you and your van), you’ll find a relaxed, friendly place to stay—with plenty of space to breathe and views that do most of the talking.
Head over to our “What’s On Site” page for all the details, prices, and to book your spot.
Come and explore Caithness
